Inevitably
each person will have had different academic training and work experience
prior to joining STFC Technology. To take account of these factors, each
young engineer is assigned a mentor to provide support and guidance, and is
given a personal training programme which is specifically tailored to their
needs.
The IET professional development scheme is a continuous process, but can
be split into a number of periods:
- Initial graduate training period of approximately two years,
which provides a supervised environment for your development. The
scheme progressively increases the graduate engineer's competencies
through a mix of project work and formal training.
- Initial Professional Development (IPD), which leads up to the
point of application for IET chartered status. This involves the
further development in the core competence and commitment areas
specified by the IET.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD), which follows on from
achievement of IET chartered engineer status, and will continue
throughout your career at STFC. This includes the further development
of both managerial and technical skills as necessary.
As a graduate engineer joining STFC Technology you will be employed to do a
real job and much of your learning and development will come from the
experience of delivering real work. You will also follow a
professional development programme and work towards Chartered Engineer
status.
