Cathal joined STFC Technology after having graduated with an MEng in
Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Queens university
Belfast.
I have been involved with FPGA circuit design and in a
very short time have gained a large amount of experience using a
variety of FPGA design tools. I have started to look at emerging
programmable logic device design methods such as FPGA design using
high level software languages such as C++. Due to the rapidly evolving
nature of microelectronic system design, there are also many
opportunities for training, so that the group is always up to date
with the latest technologies.
I am also taking part in the STFC graduate training scheme, which
provides additional training with an increased emphasis on soft
skills, or inter-personal skills. The scheme is accredited by the IET
which is important to me as it will help me to gain Chartered engineer
status in the future. STFC as an organisation also encourages
personal development and regularly runs a wide range of technical
training courses and less formal lunchtime courses open to all members
of staff.
